Army Benevolent Fund - World's Biggest Curry Lunch

The Lord Mayor of the City of London

A message from The Lord Mayor of the City of London

I am delighted to be part of the World's Biggest Curry Lunch in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) the soldiers' charity which provides support to soldiers, retired soldiers and their families in times of need.

We have all seen the horrific physical injuries that some of the brave young men and women have endured when serving their country in the Armed Forces of the Crown. The casualty rate of a battalion in Afghanistan or Iraq can be up to 14%; loosing limbs as a result of a roadside bomb or falling victim to a sniper are just two examples. We do not however yet know about the psychological injuries that some soldiers will incur as a result of their time in action.

It is for this reason that I have agreed to host the Lord Mayor's Curry Lunch on Thursday 24 April in Guildhall Yard, in the City of London to help raise money for those risking so much in Afghanistan and Iraq today.

Tickets are only £95 and during the lunch you will be eating delicious curries provided by Noon Products courtesy of Sir Gulam Noon and drinking Cobra Beer courtesy of The Lord Bilimoria. As a result of this generosity, and that of others including Berry Bros and Rudd and a number of Livery Companies, every penny you give will go directly to the ABF's Current Operations Fund.

Guests will also have the opportunity to listen to music performed by the strings and wind section of the Band of the Scots Guards and two pipers from The Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment. There will be a chance to join in the silent auction and raffle with the most amazing prizes.

All money raised will go to the ABF's Current Operations Fund which was initiated to raise money for those who are today risking so much in Afghanistan and Iraq. Regrettably, the demands placed upon the fund are expected to be high. Our soldiers will live with the physical and psychological consequences of the current conflicts for many years, and the ABF are resolute that, when the charity is called upon, they will be fully prepared to offer each and every one of them support.

I hope you are able to join me on this occasion and help our soldiers have a better life in the future. Register your interest now to avoid disappointment or call 020 7901 8914.

Yours sincerely
